Harvey Dent is the iconic DC villain, Two-Face. A well-meaning lawyer at first, Dent turns into one of Batman’s worst villains. The new teaser of Joker 2 reveals the latest version of Harvey Dent, who Aaron Eckhart previously played in The Dark Knight. It has got fans asking Who is Harvey Dent and what’s his character arc.
The new teaser for Todd Philip’s highly anticipated sequel to Joker, Joker: Folie a Deux, features another dreaded Batman villain, Harvey Dent aka Two-Face. The new promotion material published by Warner Bros. revealed that Harry Lawtey would be taking on the role of Harvey Dent. Lawtey is best known for his starring role as Robert Spearing on the television series ‘Industry.’
The teaser features Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck who is confined to Arkham Asylum. Whilst inside, Fleck watches Dent, the newly appointed District Attorney for Gotham City, holding a press conference condemning Joker’s wave of terror and violence after shooting a television presenter live on the air.
In the clip, Dent said, “Arthur Fleck is a monster. He knew exactly what he was doing. His depraved acts of violence led to riots by his followers, and they’re still willing to commit acts of violence in his name.”
The iteration of Harvey Dent that will be introduced to the audience in Joker: Folie a Deux is different from previous iterations as this film is set in an era long before Bruce Wayne became Batman. The last version of Dent, who was featured in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, shows him the same age as Batman. Joker: Folie a Deux is set to release in theatres around the world on October 4.
Who is Harvey Dent?
Harvey Dent is none other than the infamous villain Two-Face in DC. Harvey studied law and became a prosecutor to keep order in Gotham. This earned him the nickname ‘the White Knight of Gotham.’ Harvey then meets Bruce Wayne and they become good friends. Harvey, however, did not know that Bruce was The Dark Knight.
How Did Harvey Dent Become Two-Face?
Harvey’s descent into madness started when a criminal threw acid on his face. It burned most of his face and left horrible scars. Harvey was now Two-Face, seeking refuge in the dark underbelly of Gotham. Harvey Dent makes for the perfect tragic hero as he fights with his own inner self. His biggest contribution to the comics is probably his most famous dialogue, “You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.” It pretty much sums up his character arc. Joker: Folie a Deux is set to bring a new perspective to the character as we see him face the Joker himself.
