It Ends With Us, directed by Justin Baldoni and starring Baldoni and Blake Lively has been making several headlines. Sources close to the film’s production crew claim that there was an evident rift between the co-stars which led to an unpleasant work environment.
It Ends With Us was the highly anticipated adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s New York Times best-selling novel. The movie is centered around the theme of domestic violence and emotional abuse in a toxic relationship. As promotion for the film started, eagle-eyed viewers noticed that Baldoni and Lively never posed together on the red carpet or interacted during their interviews.
The Accusations
At first, many people thought that this was a marketing gimmick as the two actors’ characters were involved in domestic violence. However, theories died down soon when the main cast and Hoover unfollowed Baldoni on all social media. Soon everybody’s timeline was filled with reports from anonymous sources of trouble on the film sets and a rift between the co-stars.
In an interview with the DailyMail, the anonymous source went even further to accuse Lively of being extremely rude and entitled on the sets and Baldoni for his performative feminism. The insider claimed that the rift between the co-stars was caused by creative differences as Lively was “extremely opinionated” and “had really strong opinions about things,” resulting in stress on the set.
It Ends With Us went into production after the months-long writer’s and actor’s strike. Workers were desperate for work and many were even on the verge of losing their homes due to the strike. Amidst these tense times, the insider claims that Lively brought her children to the to raise money for horses and sick children. The insider claims that the crew felt Lively’s actions were extremely tone-deaf, with many even feeling that it was insulting and performative as the workers already had a lot on their plates.
Baldoni’s Lack of Authority on ‘It Ends With Us’ Movie Set
On the other hand, the crew felt that the film’s director Justin Baldoni was unable to take proper control of his set. They recount that whenever the crew would ask Baldoni a production-related question, he seemed defeated and would redirect the question to Lively. The insider went further on to bash Baldoni’s performative feminism and went so far as to call him an “idiot.”
The interview didn’t stop there as the insider labeled both Lively and Baldoni as “extraordinarily similar insofar that they’re just very special little snowflakes with a shocking amount of privilege and shockingly little amount of self-awareness.”
During the film’s promotion, Lively also came under fire for not addressing the seriousness of domestic violence. To add to this, old interview clips of Lively have resurfaced where the actress was extremely hostile and rude towards reporters. Baldoni has skirted away from similar controversy, however, TMZ did report that Baldoni had allegedly fat-shamed Lively and made her feel uncomfortable.
It Ends With Us was released in cinemas on 9th August to mediocre reception.
