Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse Hints at 2025 Release with Cast Returns

Fans of Spider-Man are on the edge of their seats for the third part of Sony’s hit animated Spider-Man series. However, there isn’t much clarity on when the movie will be released.

Originally slated to be released in 2023, Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse is currently in development limbo. In a 2023 interview with Digital Spy, writer-director duo Chris Miller and Phil Lord exclaimed that the movie will be released “when it is ready.” Adding, “Those conversations are thankfully above our pay grade, but I can tell you we’re already hard at work on it, and we’ll take the time it takes to make it great.”

While Lord and Miller have remained silent on the project since then, internet sleuths have deduced that the third film is deep in production. According to one source, Karan Soni who voices the character Pavitr Prabhakar aka Spider-Man India is slated to record his part soon. This update indicates that the main characters have already been voiced and animations for the same are underway.

However, sadly this update also indicates that the film will not be finished by the end of 2024 and may be released in 2025. Formerly known as Across the Spider-Verse (Part 2), Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse was expected to release shortly after the release of Across the Spider-Verse. But that has not been the case.

Actress Hailee Steinfeld who voices Gwen Stacy/ Spider-Woman in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter said that voice recording for Across The Spider-Verse “started right after the first one came out, so about four years ago.” If this pattern continues with Beyond the Spider-Verse, then fans can expect the film by late 2025 at least.

Who’s coming back for Beyond The Spider-Verse?

While neither Sony nor Lord-Miller has confirmed the cast of Beyond The Spider-Verse, some solid guesses can be made on who will return. For instance, Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld are likely to return as Miles Morales and Gwen Stacey, respectively.

Karan Soni confirmed on social media that he will return as Spider-Man India. We can also expect Oscar Isaac to make an appearance as Miguel O’Hara/ Spider-Man 2099, Issa Rae as Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman), and Daniel Kaluuya as Hobie Brown (Spider-Punk)

Other returnees may also include Jason Schwartzman as The Spot, Jake Johnson as Peter B Parker, Brian Tyree Henry as Jefferson Davis, and Luna Lauren Velez as Rio Morales.

Is Beyond The Spider-Verse the last film in the series?

It is not yet known whether Beyond The Spider-Verse is the last film. Across the Spider-Verse superbly sets up Beyond The Spider-Verse as Miles is stuck in Earth-42 with an alternative version of himself where his father is dead and his mother is dating Miles’ uncle instead. In this universe, there is no Spider-Man.

Luckily, Gwen is preparing for a way to bring Miles home with her own Spider team. Their only obstacle is that they don’t know where Miles is. On the other hand, Miles is under a time crunch as The Spot tries to kill his father. Will Gwen save Miles? We guess we’ll find out in 2025.
