Kalki 2898 Box Office Collection
Currently, Kalki 2898 ranks number 1 on the highest-grossing Indian film of the year. Kalki 2898 dominated the box office for several weeks and was able to collect over Rs 1,000 crores in the domestic and international markets. According to Sacnilk, Kalki 2898 grosses over Rs 750 crores domestically and around Rs 275 crores internationally on a budget of Rs 600 crores.
While Kalki 2898 dominated the Hindi box office, the recently released Stree 2 is expected to dethrone it pretty quickly. Over the course of its 7-day run, the Rajkumar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Stree 2 has earned close to Rs 290 crores and is only a couple of crores away from beating Kalki 2898’s Hindi box office collection. The horror-comedy is expected to exceed the Rs 300 crore mark by this weekend. Meanwhile, despite positive critic reviews Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham’s Veda have underperformed at the box office.
What is Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 About?
Set in the year 2898 A.D. in a post-apocalyptic world, Kalki 2898 A.D. builds upon the Indian epic Mahabharata. The film is set approximately 6,000 years after the battle at Kurukshetra in which Ashwatthama was cursed by Lord Krishna to roam the earth as an immortal and witness the destruction of society as it stands. The only way for Ashwatthama to redeem himself and die is by protecting the mother of Kalki, the 10th reincarnation of Lord Vishnu who will bring the world closer to the end of Kali Yuga.
In the film, Ashwatthama is played by Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone plays the role of the mother of the unborn Kalki. Prabhas stars in a dual role as Bhairava and as Karna, the ally of the Kauravas. The film also stars Kamal Haasan as Supreme Yaskin, who rules over the world, and Saswata Chatterjee as his commander.
The film had several cameo appearances from pan-Indian stars and famous directors, like Dulquer Salmaan, S.S. Rajamouli, Vijay Deverakonda, Ram Gopal Verma, and Mrunal Thakur. For those who have seen Kalki 2898, you are very well aware that the movie ends at a pretty juicy cliffhanger.
Without giving too much away, the movie ends with Supreme Yaskin gaining more powers and with Ashwatthama alone as Bhairava kidnaps Padukone’s character. Director Nag Ashwin on Instagram Live has stated that part 2 of the film will be released approximately 3 years from now.
