From sharp satire to quirky docu-comedy, these shows promise to keep you entertained with their clever writing and memorable characters. Whether you’re in the mood for something lighthearted and fun or a series that pushes the boundaries of traditional comedy, this list of the top 5 comedy shows on JioCinema has something for everyone.
1. The Rehearsal
Created By- Nathan Fielder
Starring- Nathan Fielder
The Rehearsal is a docu-comedy television series created, written, and starring Nathan Fielder. In the show, Fielder plays a version of himself that helps people rehearse for upcoming life events or difficult conversations with the help of sets and actors hired to recreate different scenarios. Sometimes the issues people have can be really trivial like confessing to a lie and other times more complex, like raising a child. This is a phenomenal show that can be brilliant in some places and very awkward in others.
2. Flight of the Conchords
Created By- James Bobin, Jemaine Clement, and Bret McKenzie
Starring- Jemaine Clement, Bret McKenzie, Rhys Darby, Kristen Schaal, and Arj Barker
Flight of the Conchords follows the surreal adventures of a struggling two-man band from New Zealand that are trying to become famous in New York City. In the show, Clement and McKenzie play fictionalized versions of themselves. The show revolves around their conversations with their band manager, Murray, and their sole fan/ stalker Mel. This is another really funny and smart show with several musical interludes.
3. 30 Rock
Created By- Tina Fey
Starring- Tina Fey, Tracy Morgan, Jane Krakowski, Jack McBrayer, Scott Adsit, Judah Friedlander, Alec Baldwin, John Lutz, Keith Powell, Lonny Ross, and Kevin Brown
30 Rock is a satirical sitcom that follows the professional and personal life of a television writer working on a show on NBC. 30 Rock is literally my favorite show of all time. It is the ultimate comfort show. According to somebody with a lot of time on Reddit, each episode of 30 Rock features one joke every 30 seconds. If you are looking for a comedy show that is hilarious but not too emotionally investing then give 30 Rock a try.
4. How To With John Wilson
Created By- John Wilson
Starring- John Wilson
How To with John Wilson is a comedy docuseries created by filmmaker John Wilson. In the show, Wilson attempts to give advice while dealing with his own personal issues. Each episode is narrated in the second-person perspective and features interviews and conversations from random people on the streets of New York. Each episode is based on a new topic. This is a very unique show for sure. Tonally it is very similar to The Rehearsal.
5. Will and Grace
Created By- David Kohan and Max Mutchnick
Starring- Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, Megan Mullally, Sean Hayes, Leslie Jordan, Shelley Morrison, and Michael Angarano
Will and Grace is a classic formulaic American sitcom following twenty-somethings sharing an apartment and the whacky people in their lives. Despite being so basic and formulaic, Will and Grace is a very charming show. The show is about a gay man and his best friend who start living together. Alongside them are their friends an alcoholic socialite and a gay actor. For me, the highlight of the show is Megan Mullally, who you might know from Parks and Recreation and The Umbrella Academy.
