Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, is credited for bringing comic book movies to the mainstream. Since Feige took over Marvel Studios he has been actively working towards creating a cinematic universe that remains relevant and appeases the sensibilities of audiences. One of the ways he has been able to do so is by strategically introducing iconic Marvel supervillains to the movies and TV shows. From Robert Redford, Cate Blanchett, Josh Brolin, and Christian Bale, many amazing actors have portrayed compelling Marvel villains.
Feige has decided to take things up a notch as Marvel enters Phase 6 by introducing Galactus and Doctor Doom as the new villains. Galactus will be played by Ralph Ineson whereas Robert Downey Jr. has been roped into making a comeback to MCU in a new role as Victor Von Doom/ Doctor Doom. In this phase, we’ll also see a new version of the Fantastic Four which will band together with The Avengers to defeat these villains. However, interestingly Feige is yet to introduce the superhero who is credited for outsmarting both of these villains. This supervillain is Squirrel Girl.
Who Is Squirrel Girl?
Squirrel Girl is a Marvel superhero, who to this date has only appeared in comic books. This character was created in 1991 by Will Murray and Steve Dikto. Squirrel Girl was created as a light-hearted character in contrast to the heavily dramatic and violent stories told in comics at that time.
Squirrel Girl is said to have a genetic anomaly that gives her the ability to communicate with squirrels. She is a member of the Avengers and has appeared as a supporting character in stories featuring Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. Squirrel Girl is the superhero alter ego of Doreen Allene Green, a college student.
How Is Squirrel Girl Integral To The Avengers?
Squirrel Girl might not seem like the most powerful hero, with her ability to talk to squirrels, but she’s actually defeated these villains in clever ways. In one comic, she and her squirrel friends managed to defeat Doctor Doom by damaging his costume. In another comic, she befriends Galactus by telling him about a planet full of nuts, his new favorite food, convincing him to leave Earth alone.
Squirrel Girl’s unexpected victories show that even the most unlikely heroes can make a big difference. It would have been interesting if Feige had included her in Phase 5, possibly in the Avengers movies, even if they didn’t directly adapt her comic book adventures.
Kevin Feige Celebrates The Success of Deadpool and Wolverine
Deadpool and Wolverine have recently become the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, beating “Joker.” Feige thanked fans for their support and expressed his joy over the film’s achievement. He also shared that all the discussions he had with the filmmakers about the movie were worth it, given its success.
The official Marvel Studios Instagram page shared a note by Kevin Feige which said, “Thanks for making Marvel Studios’ first R-rated movie the biggest of all time. It’s fantastic to see that audiences are loving this movie as much as we all loved making it. All those conversations were worth it!”
After Deadpool and Wolverine, Marvel is gearing up for the release of Captain America: Brave New World in February 2025. In Brave New World, Anthony Mackie will return as Sam Wilson who has officially accepted the title of Captain America. After meeting with newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, Sam finds himself in the middle of an international incident. He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red.
