Stree 3: Release Date, New Supervillains and Cast Revealed

Stree 3: Before Stree 2 even hit the theatres, producer Dinej Vijan announced the third instalment of Stree. He even said that the film was already written.

During the Stree 2 trailer release a month ago, producer Dinesh Vijan announced a third instalment. As per different reports, the script for the third instalment is ready and will promise a thrilling blend of horror and comedy like its predecessor.

Stree 3 Will Most Likely Release Within the Next 2 Years

At the trailer launch of Stree 2, producer Dinesh Vijan revealed, “Stree 2 is like a mothership. It answers a lot of questions that Stree 1 raised. It also tells you what the connections are. What will come next? After Stree 2 will be a film called Thama, which we’ll tell you about later. We have already written Stree 3, so the gap will be less.” Although a director hasn’t been confirmed, Amar Kaushik is most likely going to helm the third instalment as well.

While Rajkumar Rao (Vicky), Pankaj Tripathi (Rudra Bhaiya), Aparshakti Khurrana (Bittu), and Abhishek Banerjee (Jana) are guaranteed to return in Stree 3, Shraddha Kapoor’s return in the threequel is currently up for speculation. There are also some rumours which hint towards a possible spin-off with Kapoor’s character

Akshay Kumar Is Probably Going To Be The New Supervillain

Akshay Kumar had a very interesting cameo in the film as well as after the credits. The post-credits scene suggests that Kumar will be the new supervillain of the Maddock horror comedy universe. In the post-credit scene, Kumar’s character absorbs the soul from Sarkata’s body to transform into a supervillain.

Aside from Akshay Kumar’s entry into the franchise, Stree 2 subtly introduces a new villain, a vampire played by Ayushman Khurrana. Khurrana is slated to headline the next Maddock horror film, Vampires of Vijay Nagar, which will also star Rashmika Mandanna and will be directed by Aditya Satpodar, who recently directed Munjya.

Stree 2 Becomes Highest-Grossing Hindi Film Of 2024

According to Sacnilk, Amar Kaushik’s Stree 2 closed its first week with a whopping Rs 291.65 crores. On day 9, the movie did average business with Rs 17.5 crores and so a sharp increase on Saturday and Sunday with Rs 33 crores and Rs 42.4 crores collected at the box office. The website also states that the 11-day overseas collection of Stree 2 is Rs 80 crores bringing the gross collection at a whopping Rs 460 crores. Produced by Maddock Films and Jio Studios, Stree 2 was made on an estimated budget of Rs 120 crores.

On the second Sunday, Stree 2 recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 63.69%. Stree 2 has attracted the largest audience in the Delhi NCR region where it achieved 72% occupancy. Meanwhile, in Mumbai, there were 1100 shows with over 60% occupancy. While Bengaluru only had 400 odd shows, the occupancy was at 64%.

What is Stree 2 about?

Stree 2 picks up a few years after Stree. The small town of Chanderi has undergone several changes with its female inhabitants finally becoming independent. However, their independence is short-lived as the town of Chanderi becomes the battleground of a terrifying headless entity whose sole aim is to rid the town of its progressive women and turn back the clock to a much more regressive time.

Like its prequel, Stree 2 is an entertainer through and through. Director Amar Kaushik and writer Niren Bhatt are effectively able to create a narrative that is the perfect balance between horror and comedy. The performances are equally enthralling with Rajkumar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana banking on their charm.
