1. Devdas

Adapted from- Devdas by Sarat Chabdra Chattopadhyay

Devadas is a period romantic film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and starring Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, and Aishwarya Rai. It tells the story of Dev, who descends into alcoholism after his family rejects his marriage with his childhood friend Paro.

Parineeta was directed by Pradeep Sarkar and stars Sanjay Dutt, Saif Ali Khan, and Vidya Balan. It follows the love story of Lalita and Shekhar.

Adapted from- Calling Sehmat by Harinder Sikka

Raazi directed by Meghna Gulzar and stars Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, and Jaideep Ahlawat. It tells the story of an undercover spy during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.

5. Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam

Adapted from- Sahib Bibi Golam by Bimal Mitra

Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam was directed by Abrar Alvi and starring Meena Kumari, Guru Dutt, and Waheeda Rehman. The film revolves around a wife’s efforts to spend time with her alcoholic husband.

6. Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!

Adapted from- Satyanweshi and Arthamanartham by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay

Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! is a 2015 directed by Dibakar Banerjee starring Sushant Singh Rajput, Anand Tiwari, and Swastika Mukherjee. the movie is based on two novels and tells the story of Byomkesh Bakshi who is hired by Ajit Kumar to find his father.

7. Guide

Adapted from- The Guide by R. K. Narayan

Guide is 1965 film directed by Vijay Anand starring Waheeds Rehman and Dev Anand. The plot tells the story of a tour guide and an unhappy wife.

8. Black Friday

Adapted from- Black Friday: The True Story of the Bombay Bomb Blasts by Hussain Zaidi

Directed by Anurag Kashyap, the film stars Pawan Malhotra, Imtiaz Ali, Kay Kay Menon, and Zakir Hussain. It chronicles the events that led to the 1993 bomb blasts and the subsequent police investigations.

9. Bombay Velvet

Adapted from- Mumbai Fables by Gyan Prakash

Bombay Velvet is directed by Anurag Kashyap and stars Karan Johar, Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, and Kay Kay Menon. Johnny, a commoner, seeks wealth and fame to win love interest Rosie’s heart.
