Rajkumar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor’s Stree 2 inches closer to the Rs 200 crore mark as it sees an outstanding surge in ticket sales over Raksha Bandhan. Directed by Amar Kaushik, the horror-comedy had its second-biggest collection day on Sunday with Rs 55 crore.
Stree 2: Sarkate Ka Aatank is the much-awaited sequel to the 2018 hit Stree. Directed by Amar Kaushik and written by Niren Bhatt, Stree 2 stars Rajkumar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana in lead roles. The movie was released on the special occasion of Independence across the country.
Stree 2 marked its second largest collection day since its opening on Sunday with nearly 70% occupancy in all theatres. According to Sacnilk, Stree 2 was comfortably able to outperform John Abraham’s Veda and Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein in terms of performance and collection.
Stree 2 was able to benefit from the long weekend due to Independence Day and Rakhsha Bandhan as it continued its winning streak on Monday with reportedly Rs 37 crore collection. So far, Stree 2 has surpassed the lifetime collection of Hrithik Roshan’s Fighter. Meanwhile, it is only a few crores short of meeting the lifetime collection of Kalki 2898 AD in Hindi.
What is Stree 2 About?
Stree 2 picks up a few years after Stree. The small town of Chanderi has undergone several changes with its female inhabitants finally becoming independent. However, their independence is short-lived as the town of Chanderi becomes the battleground of a terrifying headless entity whose sole aim is to rid the town of its progressive women and turn back the clock to a much more regressive time.
Like its prequel, Stree 2 is an entertainer through and through. Director Amar Kaushik and writer Niren Bhatt are effectively able to create a narrative that is the perfect balance between horror and comedy. The performances are equally enthralling with Rajkumar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana banking on their charm.
On social media, Kangana Ranaut wrote a lengthy note expressing her love and adoration for the film. She writes, “Movie Stree has shattered all records, congratulations to the entire team, but the real hero of a film is the director. In India, we don’t give enough credit or appreciation to directors that’s why not many youngsters want to be writers/directors. Everyone who wants a career in films meets me for guidance to be either an actor or a superstar. Who will make movies movies if all become actors? Socho!
She goes on to add, “So please learn the names of all good directors, who do so much to entertain and engage you and please follow them also, Learn about their lives and processes as well. Please appreciate them and encourage them too. Dear @Amarkaushik sir, thank you for this much-needed all-time blockbuster.
