Elizabeth Olsen Will Return to Marvel But Only Under These Conditions!

Elizabeth Olsen is open to returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). She has portrayed Wanda Maximoff, also known as the Scarlet Witch, since 2015’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” with her latest appearance in 2022’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.”

While promoting her new drama film “His Three Daughters” alongside co-star Carrie Coon on Dublin’s FM104 radio, Olsen expressed interest in revisiting the fan-favourite role. She stated, “It’s a character that I love going back to when there’s a way to use her well.” Olsen noted that she felt well utilized in “Age of Ultron” but mentioned that there was a period where her character’s direction was uncertain.

Olsen appreciated how the character was later developed in unique ways, especially in the Disney+ series “WandaVision,” which earned her an Emmy nomination. She added that she is open to returning if there’s a compelling way to bring the character back.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige hinted at Wanda’s future in 2022, saying there’s still much more to explore about her character from the comics. He expressed enthusiasm for working with Olsen again, saying, “Anything’s possible in the multiverse.”

Here are some factors that might persuade Elizabeth Olsen to make a return:

Character Redemption and Growth
Wanda’s journey has been quite tumultuous, from her role as a grieving hero in WandaVision to becoming a full-fledged villain in Multiverse of Madness. Olsen might be interested in a storyline that offers redemption or further development for her character. Fans have always appreciated Wanda’s emotional depth, and Olsen may want to explore that complexity without repeating past storylines.

Nuanced Storytelling
Olsen values depth in her roles, and many fans felt that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness simplified Wanda’s character, turning her into a straightforward villain without delving into the layers explored in WandaVision. A return to a more nuanced and complex portrayal of Wanda might appeal to Olsen.

Collaborative Creative Process
Olsen might be seeking more creative input in how Wanda’s story progresses. Considering her comments about how Multiverse of Madness handled her character, she may want reassurances from Marvel that her ideas will be taken into account in future projects.

Connecting to Larger MCU Arcs
With the MCU expanding into multiverses and introducing characters like the X-Men, there are many opportunities to integrate Wanda’s story into broader, universe-changing arcs. Olsen could be interested in returning if her character is connected to major MCU events or new alliances with the Avengers or X-Men.

Marketing and Fan Speculation
The MCU often uses subtle hints and teasers to keep fans engaged. Just like Andrew Garfield repeatedly denied his involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home, despite growing evidence, rumours about Scarlet Witch’s return could be part of a strategy to build anticipation. With fans already discussing Olsen’s future in the MCU, a surprise announcement could reignite enthusiasm.

“His Three Daughters” will be in select theatres on September 6 and available on Netflix from September 20.
